  The Beginning

Silver Lake Home Center started life in 1982 as Silver Lake Hardware. Owned and operated by Joan and John Sherwood, the store built a solid foundation in the community offering quality hardware, friendly, knowledgeable service and, by 1985, a full line of building materials. Over the years, contractors and do-it-yourself builders came to rely on their lumber yard, custom mill work, and know-how. In 2002, under the direction of their son, Mark Sherwood, and his wife, Heather, the focus was changed to include expansion of their growing home improvement business. In 2003, the company officially became Silver Lake Home Center. Now a full-service home center,

is able to offer extensive home building project development and a wide range of lumber, millwork, paint, hardware, kitchen, flooring, door and window, and other home improvement products to both contractors and residential homeowners.

Passing the Torch

Another milestone was reached in 2005 with ownership of the store passing to Mark and Heather. In keeping with their goal of “helping builders build better”, Silver Lake Home Center embarked on a complete renovation of the store, starting with the Marvin Windows and Doors Showroom and finishing with new contractor product lines and in-store merchandising. All showrooms are in a “real home” setting to help customers visualize how products will look and function in their home. A full-time interior designer specializing in kitchen design and style is on staff to work with contractors and their customers, to be the important link between the homeowner’s vision and the builder’s technical requirements. The result of this professional communication provided by the liaison is a happier builder and a more satisfied homeowner.

The Outside Contractor Sales staff is always ready to assist builders in many ways:

  • Coordinating deliveries to jobsites
  • Establishing deadlines
  • Meeting with the builder’s customers
  • Following up on details
  • Helping to maintain a constant flow of information between Silver Lake Home Center, the builder and customer

  • Arranging on-site visits from manufactures reps to assist builders with product use and advice

Inside and outside sales teams are experienced in the building trade so they speak your language. Software programs are geared toward helping you spend less time with paperwork and more time on the job. Delivering right to the jobsite helps cut down on the time you and your crew spend off-site. The Silver Lake Home Center fleet includes the only remote-controlled boom truck in the area for faster, precision delivery and placement of building materials.
